Presentation
This Powerpoint presentation was given at the Symposium on the Clavichord at the University of Edinburgh in October 2006.
Paper
Download this paper (pdf format) for a more detailed look at why an XML database is well suited to giving researches the most appropriate access to data on the world's surviving clavichords.
Sample XML document
Click here to view an xml representation of a historical clavichord. If you would rather see the same representation, but transformed into a more readable format by xslt, click here. You can also view the transformation script here.
The xml representation here was derived from the earlier work on a clavichord database by the British Clavichord Society, and is somewhat different from the design now under development (though it shares many of the same design features).
